We sent a message to Mikey B that we'd be passing through Worcester around lunchtime and he failed to get back to us, it looks like we won't be catching up with him unless we can convince him to come to town tomorrow. Arrived at the Ramada around 1:30 and were granted early check in, a nice motel not far out of town, close to the waterfront with nearby shops and restaurants. We chilled out for a couple of hours watching Austin Powers before boarding the hotel shuttle. The shuttle dropped us off at JFK / UMass station and it wasn't too difficult to work out which train line we had to catch, the red line took us into town
With a map provided by the hotel concierge we found our target, Cheers Bar on Beacon Street; while I was out the front having a smoke, my professional camera skills were required to take snaps of visiting tourists, Chang and I had no choice but to jump on the bandwagon. Downstairs we went and it was like stepping back into the 80's, there were no tables available but they found us a spot at the bar and I duly took my seat in the spot reserved for Normie, another thing I can tick off my bucket list. We had a couple of beers as is customary before ordering our meals, Chang had a mug of chilli backed up by a chicken panini and I had the famous clam chowder followed by a turkey club sandwich. The meals were pretty good value considering the popularity of the place. After dinner we wandered through to rest of the building checking out the memorabilia and souvenirs before heading to the subway back through the park. Not everybody knew our name but by the time we left a lot of them did.
Once we got back to JFK / UMass station we had about a half an hour wait for the shuttle. We got back to our room about 9:30 and decided to head next door to Boston Bowl to check it out. The place has it's own brewery so we had a couple of beers while watching the Bruins beat the Penguins. It has a couple of batting cages, so we thought we might give it a crack tomorrow before heading into Fenway.
