Had a long (10hrs at least and the sun was shining all day)drive to Marahua, a tiny place where we camped at a place called Old Macdonalds Farm. It had cows, sheep and llamas which I said hello to whenever I passed! Was very cold so showering was a bit traumatic! Also had a problem, the airbed had a hole so we woke up on the floor!
We came here so we could swim with seals at the nearby Abel Tasman Park. We managed to miss the turn off so we were a bit late (as usual on this trip). After a lot of time wasting we got our wetsuits etc and headed off in a water taxi (abit chilly). We stopped off a few times to see some sights and then we reached the seals. In we went. It was amazing. We saw mummies, bulls and pups. They swam very close to you, sometimes eye to eye. At one place a mummy and pup were playing in the water, it was so cute. One place was gorgeous, like a lagoon, water so blue. After the swim we donned fleeces and then headed to a beach for hot chocolate.
An absolutely fantastic experience, I would recommend to everyone. Really enjoyed the fact that they were in the wild so it was compleeely their choice to come to us, we stayed far away from the rocks they were on.
We headed back, sunbathed (and got slightly burnt) and fixed the airbed!
