Travelled to Wellington (the capital) and again put the tent up, this time in the garden of a hostel! Spent of couple of nights there and then upgraded to a room in a hostel for 2 nights for New Years. A very strange hostel with very strange people! The hostels here are huge not like the cosy ones in South America, but we did get the dorm to ourselves although toilets were further than they are normally when camping!
To be honest did not do much in Wellington, spent a lot of time being lazy and reading in the sun as the rain (cross fingers) has stopped. We did make it to the cable car which you catch up to a huge botanical garden (mum you would have loved the rose gardens) and can see Wellington. And made it to another viewpoint at Mount Victoria. Other than that pottered around the shops (still didn't buy anything) and discovered Starbucks Caramel Iced Coffee, have had one every day and am drinking one as I write this (good for a hangover).
And then it was New Years, after getting stressed as didn't know where to go and then waiting as usual for Simona to get ready(yes Frank even here she's always running late)we headed out. We decided to go to a bar that is attached to a hostel, a slippery nipple (that's a drink) and a bottle of wine later we were dancing away and chatting to everyone including the DJ (got a shout out)and bouncers! At about 11pm headed off with a few people we met to another bar and saw in the New Year although the DJ messed it up so no count down or Old Langs Ayne (although we had already done that earlier with the DJ in the other bar but without music!).
Everything here stays open so much later, at 5am when we walked (stumbled) home the streets were still buzzing. Once at home we ate some Crunchy Nut Cornflakes and Crunchy Fruit and Nut and by 6am were snoring softly! Up at 9am as had to check out, feeling hot! Had an argument with receptionist as because we checked out 30mins late she wouldn't give me my deposit back, after arguing and giving her a filthy look I got my money! Spent the day hung over, ate loads( as New Years Resolutions never come true my one this year is to get fat which should mean the opposite should happen, what do you think?, went to the cinema to see Rumour Has It which made me laugh and cry (I will be like the Grandma when I am older she was well hard!) and stayed on the Internet.
Catching a ferry to the South Island at 7pm, hungover on a ferry not a good idea!

01 Wellington and Simona's cuddlies!
After chatting to a few other people and dancing we headed back to the original bar as the music was better. The bouncers were nothing like in England, they just giggle non stop so I showed them how to do the tough bouncer thing and was a bouncer for awhile (my new calling maybe, but don't think would enjoy standing in the cold all night in Englnd)! At 3am the bar closed and we headed back to the 2nd bar with the bouncers! We were asked for ID in one place and apparently they can't accept UK driving licenses even though I am allowed to use it to drive, and they wouldn't let the bouncer in even though he was still in uniform.
