Woke up once again to the pouring rain and packed up the tent, everything we own is now slightly damp, oh the joys of camping!
Set off to Waitomo Caves where we had a fantastic time. Basically there are a variety of caves with glow worms and there are different adventures that you can do through them. We chose one where we put on a very sexy wet suit, (mine had a whole in the outer layer of the bottom part where eels had ate through!) walked across a field and entered a cave (we had torches attached to our helmets). We walked through the caves, knee deep in muddy water, in classic me style I managed to trip over quite early on. We then sat on our rubber rings and floated in the dark through the caves looking at the glow worms. Then came the waterfall (only small), lucky me was first up so I climbed to the top and he told me to turn round, apparently we go backwards! I was not very sure about this but I eventually put my ring around my bottom, held on tight and threw myself backwards, landed with a splash in the water, actually stayed in the ring but got loads of water in my mouth! Next we all linked up and were guided through the water in the dark looking at the glow worms, so peaceful I nearly fell asleep. Next step was a slide, basically you stand at the top of a slide with water gushing around you and then go down it, was really good fun.
All in all had a great time and wished I could do the waterfall and side again, as the first time I was a bit apprehensive. Apparently we were lucky because due to the heavy rainfall lately the water was deeper than normal, warmer and the waterfall bigger.
We then drove back to the beach house were finally the rain stopped.
