We left Pucon and the rain and travelled overnight to Santiago (Chile). We got off the bus and then got onto another bus for 6hrs to Mendoza (another border crossing) where it is sunny and hot, yeah!
We decided to wonder around an arts and crafts market and then the next day around the shops, it was excellent I could have bought so many things but had to restrain myself to 3 necklaces, 4 pairs of earrings and a bag (they are so small they fit nicely into my rucksack)!
We got chatting to a bloke in our dorm and it turns out he used to go to Southampton Institute, it is a small world!
The next day we went to Mendoza´s park which is absolutely huge, you could spend all day walking around it. We strolled around the lake (admiring all the joggers and cyclists, there were loads of them) and then sat down on the grass to read and eat our lunch 01 At Mendoza Park.
01 At Mendoza Park.
. I was sitting there quite happily when I realised my bottom was wet, water had run down the hill and soaked me which Simona found highly amusing! Luckily the sun soon dried it off. Managed to get slightly red but luckily it was not sore. In the evening we went to see Harry Potter which I thought was fantastic.
The following day we moved to another hostel which had a pool, unfortunately the sun chose not to shine so we just pottered around. For the first night Simona and I were in separate rooms, when we met up in the morning Sim was not happy as she was awoken by a couple getting jiggy with it in the bunk opposite her (better than the last time this happened as that time it was in the bunk above her)! The 2 girls in my room are on the same flight as us to NZ, one of them was called Caroline also 25 and the other went to Southampton Institute!
The next day we posted some things home which cost 30 pounds! Was quite amusing as they only had stamps for postcards so the whole parcel is covered in stamps. We then sunbathed as the sun came out but ended up with some weird and wonderful strap marks. As we were laying in the Sun a bloke who worked at the hostel asked us if we wanted to sign up for the party the next day which we did but we had to pay then. My handbag was slightly away for me so I asked the poor bloke to get my bag for me, ultimate laziness! That afternoon we went on a wine tour, 2 wineries and an olive oil place 02 Wine barrels.
02 Wine barrels.
. Was quite interesting and obviously we got to drink wine. That night Sim and I went out (around midnight) to continue the wine drinking, found a good, small club and danced the night away, returned home around 4.30am.
On Friday we were extremely lazy and did hardly anything. At 11.30pm we headed downstairs to the party. It included a free bbq, wine, punch and champagne, there was actually too much of everything! After the food the dancing began. Had an excellent night and was good and did not drink much. However I did not make it to bed but got to the room at 7.30 am, showered and changed then caught the bus back to Santiago! Some people were still up and drinking when we left!
I think Mendoza is one of my favourite places in South America (and one of the cheapest).
