Woke up at 3am to catch a plane to Ushuaia from Buenos Aires, I do love these early starts. As we were travelling to the airport people were in restaurants eating their dinner, at 3.30am! I was quite upset as had my apple confiscated at customs, not sure why as we were staying in the same country!
Ushuaia is lovely (it is as south as you can get before Antartica), little wooden buildings a bit like chalets everywhere, very cute. I have decided that I prefer little places rather than big cities, here I can potter about on my own and not be worried about getting lost (my sense of direction is appalling). The views are stunning, you have water (the Beagle Canal) and snow capped mountains. We were told it was freezing here but the sun was shining so it was quite warm in the town, at one point I was just in a long-sleeved top. We went on a boat trip to see sea lions and birds that looked a bit like penguins, I call them fake penguins 1 View from the boat trip.

! Was rather chilly on the boat and we fell asleep on the return journey!
The next day we caught a taxi to a chair lift where you then walked to a glacier, as we approached the chair lift I realised I was quite scared, didnīt really feel very safe going up into the mountains on that rickety thing, tried hard not to get hysterical ( I am bad enough on cable cars where at least you are enclosed!). At the top of the chair lift the views of the channel and mountains were amazing. We went for the walk to see the glacier, the walk involved a bit of rock climbing and walking across snow, I managed to end up knee deep in the snow! We didnīt quite manage to find the glacier, neither did anyone else, we think it had snowed recently and the snow had covered the glacier but was worth the walk for the views. Was quite chilly at the top hence the photo of me in my wooly hat. On the return route to the chair lift, in classic me style we managed to take a slight detour from the recommended path. We could see others on the correct path but couldnīt work out how to get there. After clambering over rocks, nearly sinking in a kind of marshy ground and managing to put my foot in an icy stream, we made it to safety. Trust me to get lost on such a simple route! I was much braver on the chair lift back down.
That night we went for a drink with a Liverpuddlian lad we met in the hostel, after 2 wines in an Irish bar we moved on to another place where we met another 2 lads from hostel. After a few cocktails ( remember that their alcohol quantities are a lot bigger than in England) we wanted to go dancing. Apparently the only place to dance was a strip joint so off we went. I did a bit of pole dancing (Katie you would have been proud) and then the strippers came on so I got off the stage! We decided that we had had enough and left, we were very surprised to discover that it was light outside. We got back and realised it was 6am! I spent the next day in bed, a bit poorly! Managed to get up around 7pm! The next morning I was up at 4.30am for a bus journey to our next port of call.
Could quite happily have stayed a few more days as loved it here, such a gorgeous place.
