We caught a boat from Uruguay to Buenos Aires, was surprised at how posh the boat was and how big it was! The journey seemed to go on for ever so we passed the time eating! I went to the duty free shop and got very excited as I found Cadbury´s Fruit and Nut! As we pulled into BA the sights were stunning as it was night time and everything was lit up. It looked very impressive and the place is huge. We are quite excited as we are actually staying here for nearly a week, after so much travelling in the last few weeks it is nice to stay somewhere for awhile. Hopefully my back will recover form lugging my backpack around and my body will recover from the constant taking of travel pills.
The next day dawned sunny and bright so off we went on a walk around the town. Saw a Big Ben look a like, not as impressive as Big Ben. We also saw where Evita did her famous song/ speech from the balcony and yes i sang! The skies then opened so we sheltered in a cafe!
That night we cooked pasta for about the 5th day running and as we finally had a TV with English channels, watched a film and saw Friends (I have really missed Friends!), we know how to live!
On Friday we went to a zoo, my first zoo since being away so was quite excited. Was a lot bigger than I thought and very cool, you could feed some of the animals as well! As we left the zoo we passed a park and in the park were about 40 cats, very strange to see so many cats in one place. We ate lunch nearby and as we were eating we heard a bang, a woman was parking her car and hit the car in front, she reversed and then went forward and hit the car again, she then obviously decided that that was the best she could do and left her car there (see photo)!
That night we went out for dinner and shared a bottle of red wine, the glasses were huge (see photo)! We then went back to the hotel to get ready for a night out, I got upset because I was all ready to straighten my hair but the adaptor would not work so I couldn´t! As we finally found some speakers to attach to my MP3 I had a sing song as I was getting ready, bet the other guest enjoyed it (am addicted to James Blunt, listen to Beautiful or what ever it is called constantly, much to Simona´s annoyance!). 1 The Evita balcony.
1 The Evita balcony.
We ended up in an Irish pub that played music we listened to when we were teenagers!
On Saturday we decided to go shopping however Simona lost the map so we spent 2 hrs looking for the shops, we were so tired and fed up by the time we found them, that we left empty handed within half an hour! That night we went to an all you can eat buffet, they are very popular here, and I had the best steak ever (Frank you would have loved it)!
On Sunday we went to a Plaza where they had a market, there were also lots of street entertainers. We went into a cafe where as long as you ate you could watch free Tango, it was very good but slightly worrying when they tried to get us up to Tango on stage!
Today, Monday, we went to a little place 40 mins away by train. The place basically is connected by canals so we went on a boat trip, was interesting to see all the houses by the water on stilts!
A few extra things:
1. Have just looked at my map and realize how confusing my travels appear, we don´t seem to have done a very logical route!
2. In some places in South America, people carry round with them a metal cup and metal straw in which they place their special tea leaves, they also carry a thermos so that they can constantly top up their cup (and they say the British are tea drinkers!). They spend all day drinking tea, they even had vending machines at the zoo selling hot water for the thermos. I get annoyed enough carrying a handbag round let alone constantly having a cup and thermos!
