Where I stayed

Once we were packed up I called up my Good Sam roadside service about my flat tire. I think I mentioned that I ran over a nail somewhere along our way to this park. (AAA won't work on a trailer) I paid $80 for the Good Sam before we left on this trip so I figured I would use it. A guy showed up after about an hour and changed my tire out with the spare. On our way out we found a tire shop and they patched my tire for me. After about 1/2 an hour and $20, we were on the road toward the Atlantic Ocean.

note: We finally sampled this place called The Waffle House. They got thousands of them down here in the South. Surprisingly good and really cheap diner style food. If you got a bad heart or high blood pressure then I would skip this place.

We wanted to see more of the Gulf so, rather then stay on the I10 we took the 90 along the coast. We saw lots of oil spill clean up happening. Bus loads of clean up crews everywhere. Other then that the beaches were pretty much empty. I jumped out of the truck once to investigate this big BP oil spill everyone keeps talking about. I saw nothing but a bunch of firework debris. (It seems to me that fireworks are legal everywhere but California.) Well, if the water is supposed to be blue on the Mississippi coastline then we have issues. It was dark brown. I stood in it. Scooped some up and smelled it. Smelled like....water I guess.

After some hours we pulled into a Walmart in Gulf Breeze, Florida and settled in for the night. It was tough sleeping conditions with massive downpours and thunder all night.

We were on the road by 8 am and took a drive along the long skinny island that is here. More empty beaches. We got back to the I10 and headed toward St Augustine (which I've learned is the oldest city in the US).

Wow...all the beaches were empty? Were they actually closed for safety reasons or it was just too early in the morning?
You didn't say if you stopped in Mobile. I did my 6 week medical boot camp there, my first Christmas away from home.
What fun thing is Vi doing for her birthday? Give her a hug for me..happy happy birthday, Vi!

Did you check the water for sharks with your new found knowledge that I taught you in Laguna Beach? The only other part of the test I didn't tell you about was...if it tastes like oil, there are sharks, but they are dead.
