Where I stayed
I had an issue with my jacks and had to get the tool box out and do some dismantling of linkage and okie-rigging to get them working again. I'm so glad I brought a halfway descent set of tools with us on this trip cuz we haven't gone more than a few days without something breaking.
Our 1st impressions of Texas are good. For example; I parked in front of of the tire center, at Sam's Club, for the night. I need to find a good spot cuz I had to unhook and leave the trailer while I got the oil change done. I was thinking I would be out of there in the morning before business opened up. No dice. These guys opened up around 7. I was unhooking and a guy came out of the shop. I was thinking...."shit....here we go. This guys going to give me the boot." Considering I'm taking up a large portion of his lot. Not the case. This guy waves to me, and says good morning. He's got the heavy Texas accent going too. I explain that I need to get my oil changed down the street and need to leave the trailer for a couple of hours. He says, "leave it all day if you want to". He tells me that he will keep an eye out to make sure no one parks in front of it (so I can hook back up) while I'm gone. Pretty nice. It was early. Vonnie was just getting up and Vi was still asleep. I thank him and I'm off to Lithia, right next door.
I pull into the dealership and, before I can get out of my truck, a guy is greeting me with a clipboard. He takes a little info from me, takes my key and says it will be done in an hour. I didn't have to show any paperwork or even go into the building. The whole ordeal took about 2 minutes! Never had service this good at my hometown dealership. I walked back to the trailer and had a cup of coffee then went back and grabbed the truck. Fresh oil....new filter....done.
A couple other things I'm noticing here. Lot's of BBQ. Even the smaller towns we pass through will have multiple BBQ joints to choose from.
Anyway. The pit stop was complete and we were off for a long haul toward Austin around 9am.
