After packing some food and beverages Jason brought us to a really cool little beach in Laguna.
We left Chula behind as, I said in an earlier post, there seems to be very few "dog beaches" left in So Cal. This beach was really cool with a little bit of everything. It had good swimming and snorkeling and a good open sandy beach for lounging or whatever, but still had some nice rock formations you could climb around on and check out tide pools. I saw that some people were catching fish out there too. Some more friends of April and Jason’s showed up and we had a great day out there with everybody. We plan to return to this beach again and log some hours here. Jason taught Violet how check the water for sharks. Apparently, you stand in the water ankle deep, dip your finger into the water and swirl it around. Then you taste your finger. If it tastes like salt then there are sharks in the water! He says this test has a 99% accuracy.
Later in the afternoon we headed back to the condo and hung out poolside and then bbq’d. Jason got out the cigar box guitars that he builds himself ( www.soundboxguitars.com
) and we jammed a bit. These things are works of art and he shows them in galleries. Jason and (soon to be stepdaughter) Macarena, have a band.
These guys rock this deep south blues sound (swamp-rock, I like to call it). Jason’s a one man sound machine and Mac belts out the vocs like you wouldn't’t believe. I'll try to upload some video of these guys jamming if I can figure out how. I'm finding out this blog is not very user friendly nor is it consistent.
We had an awesome time in Southern Cal hanging out with friends. Everyone was really great, taking the time out to show us around and we really appreciate it. Vonnie and I, both, could really get used to a life in the Laguna Beach area and it’s always hard for us to leave once we hang out there for a bit. But it’s time for us to get the hell out of California and get this roadtrip, really, started. So it’s off to Vegas for a night or 2 before heading into Utah.
Next morning we hung out and had coffee with Mike and Danielle, then we were back on the road headed west again toward the coast and our friends April and Jason (Farthing). They have a condo in Aliso Viejo, near Laguna Beach. Jason said there was room to pull a 50' rig into so we gave it a shot. He was right, well, after I smashed the front cap of the trailer into a nearby tree (not purposely of course) and took out a couple of limbs, we had plenty of room! I climbed up top and inspected….just a few scrapes and scratches but, fortunately, no real damage. This parking spot was, actually really nice, pretty level and we even had room to slide out. I told Jason that we may be staying here the whole 10 weeks of our roadtrip and he welcomed us to!
