Day 4: sittin in ollantaytambo
Entry 2 of 2 | show all | print this entry |
hola amigos,
it´s been a great couple of days. check out the pics, but here´s a couple highlights: -slept in lima airport (see pic), took an exciting morning flight into cuzco in the morning (rough and fast descent into the valley) -local bus ride to small town of pisac (interesting conversation with locals using phrasebook...we were the only gringos in sight). breathtaking scenery. see pic of pisac from midway point of our hike. -stumbled into amazing hostel on main square...location of the infamous pisac market. -woke up and were not allowed to leave hostel until we filled out our census forms (you see, it was census day in pisac..everything closed) see pic -carolines birthday -- amazing breakfast on terrace, census shut down the country, so we hiked to the top of pisac to the ancient incan ruins. great hike -- discovered some secret incan tunnels (we believe mankind has not set foot on these tunnels since the dawn of time....maybe not), dinner on the main square (owner´s mother baked a custom birthday cake for caroline that day). General comment, we are not expecting to lose any weigth while here. Food is phenomenal!!! -woke up and hit the market, caroline showed off some strong negotiation skills. don´t mess. -hopped back on the local bus headed for ollantaytambo. wild bus ride -- transferred from bus to a combi (i.e. a small van crammed with 20+ peruvians, 2 canadians (us), and a roof rack filled with grains, bicycles, and our gringo backpacks)
we´ve noticed that ollantaytambo is surrounded by amazing mountains dotted with incan ruins at the top. we plan to hike up to them tomorrow (We hear greatness only second to Machu Picchu). the peruvian people are amazing, we´ve really taken to their lifestyle and it looks like it will be very difficult to leave each and every stop along the way. cheryl, thanks for the phrasebook..we´d be lost without it.
Buenos Noches Amigos.

Hey you kids! (get out of that Jello tree...)Couldn't resist. Sounds like you are having way too much fun down there. I second Hamiltonparents' comment about photos. Caroline, your blog status shows you have uploaded zero photos... hmmm. maybe that explains why we can't see them at this end? oh well, we'll see them sometime for sure. I'm very glad to know that you had some cake on your birthday Ca... show all

Hello. Good to hear from you both. Your adventure sounds wonderful. Keep on reading your Spanish phrase book. If you have posted pictures, we are unable to view them. We'll keep trying. Ollantaytambo sounds great. Second only to Machu Pichu eh. Sounds exciting. Talk soon. Love Mom & Dad
