Ive been thinkng a bit while out there in them fields and forests about trees and the planet and stuff and, you know small stuff like that. I like this photo (need to enlarge to see the writing) it kind of gets the point across about what we are trying to achieve.
Its our responsibility
Its our responsibility

But this sums up what I want to say/request/suggest/put out there.

Buy less, make more

Drive less, bus more

Bus less, walk more

Worry less, smile more

Stay in less, go out more

Eat less, exercise more

Sleep in less, see sunrise more

Moan less, sing more

Fight less, hug more

Say no less, say yes more

Use power less, use your power more

Text less, phone more

Phone less, visit more

Use less, reuse more

Rush less, see more

Talk less, listen more

Work less, play more

Want less, have more

After all that rare serious stuff, heres some gratuitous shots and vids of a scary spider eating stuff:

Fat Les, Barrymore
One of my students lent me the English translation of a local monk's words of wisdom on the Buddhist faith recently. I'd always thought I quite fancied Buddhism but this reminded me of the fact that it's a religion/philosophy that essentially asks me to give up a lot of the things I enjoy in life in return for a state of enlightenment that is possibly only theoretical and/or - if it does exist - bl**dy difficult to attain.

The fact that scepticism is one of the earlier 'fetters' that I'd apparently cast off probably says it all, but frankly I think I'll keep my earthly traits for a wee-while yet, seeing as I've got a wedding coming up n all.

Your philosophy on the other hand fits pretty closely to my own, although living in a city you'd probably find yourself - bamboo scaffolding aside -making a lot less stuff than you do at the moment, regardless of your better intentions. And I've always thought sunrises are better enjoyed when you've been awake for nigh-on 24 hours and still have the legs, lungs and voice to play the game a little longer.

Still, reckon you've got the material there to set up a commune in the mountains and siphon off young minds from some of the world's better universities for the eco-cause. Send me some flyers, I'll drop 'em off next time I pass through a sizeable population centre.

Anyway, speaking of philosophy, I've got a match to watch.

Hasta luego...

Rob
