Hola!

Well I made it, a mere 24 hours late which in the context of all this way aint bad. To be not met by the people from the hostel (I blame KLM). But a quick taxi ride and chat to a nice taxi driver I was, um circling around the area where my hostel was while he looked for it. After several goes up and down avenida de 6 diciembre (loads of roads named after dates here, suggestions for the reason to the usual address please).

I made myself at home here: 1. Home sweetish home
1. Home sweetish home
and then about an hour later Elin and Paul called round to take me on a tour of the city. Two hours in the place and im on an ickle bus crammed with Quitians on the way to the old town. Saw some stuff including this angely type thing on big globe, 3. Big old Angel type thing
3. Big old Angel type thing
and as is compulsory when you're a tourist we climbed up it: 4. Bloody Welshies ruining my photo

theres them and theres me: 5. Me!
5. Me!

This is Quito - its frickin massive 2. Big old city really
2. Big old city really
, only stops as theres massive mountains all round it which is interesting when coming in on the plane as the airport is right in the centre and theres people living just above where the planes are passing (Also slightly scary when a 777 flies a few feet over your head.

After doing the tourist bit had to head over to the organisation I'm volunteering with had fun then yesterday morning trying to sort out getting my visa certified. Hopefully I can pick it up first thing tomorrow am then hop on a bus for a couple of hours to the mountainy jungle type place: www.la-hesperia.com - this is where I'm gonna be.

Done well so far with grub - had Egyptian, Italian, Mongolian and I guess what I had earlier counts as  South American - four courses for around 1.50 - bargain! And pancakes are big out here, which is a shame of cpurse. Also most places seem to do cocktails for about 50p so it was moqitos all round yesterday night.

Notable mention should also go to me succesfully buying a pair of rubber boots and working out the bus I need to get Friday - all en espanol. Muy bien.

Laters, next stop the jungle. Apparently theres some sort of intraweb in the place. Which is nice.

Hasta Luego!

Looks like Barry still to me
Are you sure that's Ecuador? it still looks like Barry to me. Maybe a bit bigger than Barry, perhaps a travelodge in Dinas Powys in the mist.

I know your on tenderhooks - so to release the tension and put your mind at ease - Harry's been dry for THREE days now, the boy is a genius. Gets it fom my side but Sarah's done a wonderful job.

You probably missed Annually Retentive on Monday - brilliant. Owen Money plays Rob Brydon's dad, don't worry I've set the video for the next 104 weeks (not sure if it would translate well into Spanish) - that means I can't change the channel for the next 2 years but it's a small price to pay.

Oh and thanks for all those DVDs in spanish, yeah great laugh they'll be.

That ain't roughin it...
I have just looked at the website for where you are based, and am far from happy, internet access, beautiful greenery all around, and the accomodation looks far from the slum I had expected - (its not made from bits of rusty scrap metal and elephant poo and that sort of thing).
In fact the more I look at the photo's it looks familiar - are you sure you are not staying on the outskirts of the afan forest maybe the less rough part of Maesteg?..

I had thought that travelling all that way just to avoid helping Jon with more DIY and housemoves etc was a bit excessive but I now see the appeal.

Any way better let you go, I guess you've got trees to fondle.

Ciao for now.

Steve
