This morning we got up at eight because I had asked Sandra if we could go to her church for mass. The mass was at 9 When we got there Sandra told me that we would have to stand because people pay to have seats in the church since it is so small. That blew my mind. And if that wasn't enough they also had the men on one side of the church and the women on the other. I couldn't believe it. Sandra had warned me also that the priest wanted to be very modern and had a projection screen that projected the words of the songs. This was quite out of place in such an old church with old decorations. The mass was normal for the most part just in a language that I didn't understand even a little bit.
After church, everyone gathered outside and visited just like at home. Sandra's cousin Jozica invited us to her house for coffee. Of course we went. Her almost husband was so excited to be entertaining an American. His name was Jozi. He took pictures of us because he said he had never had an American at his house before. Their son was 10 and he could play the accordion so well. He entertained us and apparently he was going to be on TV the next day playing it. Their daughter was six and had just learned how to ride a two wheeler. We sat at a table outside under a bloomed cherry tree. It was so beautiful. The grandfather who also lived there said that he liked me and he wondered if all American girls were as beautiful as me (Sandra translated). That was so sweet and flattering. Jozi is a European truck driver and I told him that my brother is an American truck driver. He was really excited about that. He wants me to send him a picture of an American truck since they are quite a bit different.
After that wonderful visit we went back to Sandra's. We weren't there for very long when Sandra's neighbor and aunt found out that she had an American guest and she said we had to go visit her. So we did. She was so hospitable. She pulled out a huge jug of homemade schnapps and a couple of shot glasses. I couldn't get my glass empty before she would refill it. And then another neighbor showed up. And then Sandra's dad and the husbands of the aunt and other neighbor showed up. It became a party. We were sitting outside on a little picnic table. Sandra's aunt kept bring out a bunch of food. She made dandelion salad and homemade sausage and mashed potatoes. A little while later, Andrej showed up on his motorcycle. It was so much fun. Everyone was really interested in me. None of them could speak English though except for Sandra and Andrej. After that wonderful lunch and visit Andrej took me for a ride on his motorcycle. It was soooo much fun! He took me down by the monastery that I went to the other day. It was such a perfect day for a motorcycle ride and the country was just so beautiful. After that awesome ride Andrej gave me some Slovenian chocolate for me to remember him and Slovenia by. He was really sweet.
Sandra had made us lunch too. It was so hard to eat though after eating so much at the neighbors. I forced food down though because Sandra had been making it all day and I didn't want to be rude. Her father gave me more of their homemade wine too. Sandra's cousin Tina came over for a little visit to say goodbye to me after lunch.
After saying goodbye to everyone it was time to go meet Zoran so I could say goodbye to him too. We went to a little cafe and had a quick goodbye because he had to be somewhere and I had to get to the train station anyway. At the train station Sandra and I hung out until my train came. It was sad to have to say goodbye to her again. I hope I'll see her again someday.
This trip was so wonderful. It was so interesting to be around so many people who had never met an American before. I have never felt so exotic.
