. Katie and I ordered a Sex on the beach cocktail to share. As I said, she had never really drank before so I thought this drink would be a great first drink for her, and it was, she loved it. The DJ was playing some pretty good music, and after we had had one drink we were feeling pretty good. There was no one on the dance floor so we decided to start a trend. We danced a lot. It felt so good to dance again. I haven't danced in so long it seems. Katie and I then got a Pina Colada to share. (The drinks are soo expensive so it was good to share. They were each 7.80 euros). We danced and had a great time until about 1am and then Katie, Craig and I decided to head home. The rest of the group didn't get in until 6:30am this morning.
I didn't wake up until 10am this morning. I shot out of bed though when I realized what time it was. Katie and I had planned on going to the zoo today, but we had never really decided what time to go. She evidently woke up at the same time I did. We ended up leaving at 11ish to go to the zoo. Craig came with us too. We took the U4 to the zoo. It cost 12 euros to get into the Tiergarten. We spent the whole day there. The weather was delightful. I got to see a baby panda and its mommy today. I have been in love with pandas pretty much my whole life and I finally got to see one in real life today! I was soo excited! I took a bunch of pictures but none of them really turned out well. We weren't allowed to use flash and the lighting wasn't great
. I spent about 10 minutes with the pandas before they kicked us out to let the next group in. After seeing the pandas I was super content the rest of the day. We saw a ton of other amazing animals, like leopards, and tigers, giraffes, koalas, monkeys, peacocks and flamingos... the list goes on. It was a very nice museum. Very old too. I thought it was all very elegant, the way that it was set up. You could definitely tell that it was an imperial zoo.
After spending the whole day at the zoo we were right next to/ in the Shonbrun gardens so we decided to just walk around in them. The last time we had been here it was still kind of winter so the trees didn't have leaves on them and there really weren't any flowers. Now all of the trees had leaves and there were lots of flowers and all of the fountains were on. We went over to the largest fountain in the park and sat there for a long time. Its at the bottom of the hill before the Gloriette, in front of the Shonbrun palace. Sitting here in the sun today I realized how much I'm going to miss Vienna. There is nothing that even remotely compares to this in America. The gardens were massive and amazing. Everything here was amazing really. We decided to head back home, mainly because we hadn't eaten anything all day. I could have spent the whole rest of the day there.
We got back around 5 and had an hour to kill before dinner
. After dinner we got ready for going to see Mozart's Requiem. It was being performed at Karlskirche. This is the huge beautiful church only a short walk from where I live. It was so wonderful to be at a concert in this beautiful church. There is so much to look at there. The acoustics are pretty good too. The orchestra and choir were relatively small, but they pulled off the performance very well I thought. I'm pretty much convinced that Mozart's Requiem is one of the most amazing compositions of Western civilization. It's so powerful. And even if you don't understand the words you're moved by the music. It was fantastic.
Tomorrow, I'm going to see the Vienna boys choir at mass at the Hofburg Kappel and then we're going to ride the famous Prater ferris wheel. We only have 8 days left here so we're trying to get as much stuff in as possible.
Last night after going to Bratislava we decided to make dinner since we got back just late enough that we missed dinner. We made mashed potatoes, chicken and corn. It was so good. We also bought a couple bottles of red wine and cake too. We were just having a good time and enjoyed our meal and the company. The wine also made us quite friendly. Diego asked us if we wanted to go out with the rest of the group that evening. Katie said she would go if I went. So of course I couldn't say no, Katie has never really been out, mainly because she has never drank before. I thought it would be fun to go with her and Craig and the rest of the group anyway. So at 10pm almost all of our group went out. Katie, Me, Craig, Meghan, Diego, Kim, Tori, Tom and Iris. We first went to their favorite bar called Aruba. For some reason it was closed though. So we then went to Floyd's which was actually not far away at all. This place was really nice. The upstairs was a typical smoky bar but the downstairs was a nice bar with a dance floor, so it was similar to a club
