Show trip route
It's been a busy week! We are starting to settle in and it's been great.
I have joined the Maine University Equestrian Club and the Maine Dressage club.
We have meetings once a week and discuss events, fundraiser ideas and general horse topics.
Each week someone from the club has to discuss something to do with horses. In the dressage club we have 20 members and in the equestrian club we have 40 members. In the equestrian
club I will be able to compete and do a show! I have to wait until the coach See's me ride
and than she will asses what level I can compete
levels from beginners to advanced. I will get to travel to Vermont, New Hampshire and Boston with
all the riders. The transport, flights and accommodation is free! I will have to see how I go and
I have not had a lesson yet...... but this will happen soon enough.
Tuesday night Jordan and I go to the rec centre where we hire raquets and play
squash. We usually have a game and Jordan always wins, so I end up smashing the ball
at him! Ha ha. We also have a bit of a muck around and rally shots. Lots of good fun! The
rec center is the best place ever. It has basket ball courts, volley ball courts, hockey courts.
table tennis, gym, pool, spa and sauna. There is always so much atmosphere there.
So many college kids!
Wednesday night my friend asked us to join her Ultimate Frisbee team
what to expect and how competitive the game would be, after all it was just Frisbee.
We got to the match and watched the people play before us. They had set plays and huddles and
were on the triathlon team! This Frisbee was for real!!! So we got started and 2 girls have to
be on the field all the time, 4 boys. There are 2 x 20 min half's with lots of running involved.
The game was great and now we play weekly. You work
up a sweat and its really good fun. We had another game scheduled in, however it was raining
heavily and it got canceled.
Thursday night Jordan cooked up a storm. The weather was terrible.
Pouring down with rain! Baked scallop creamy pasta with pine nuts and avocado.
Jordan has been so delightful in the kitchen. Always cooking up the most spectacular meals.
Friday night we had a BBQ and friends over. Everyone was drinking and smoking. We had
a fire going as it was freezing! The temperature is really starting to drop. It has been getting down
to 0 degrees Celsius. We have been wrapping up and wearing 2 x jackets and socks!
We are cold now...... wait till we get to the end of October. The Locals have told us
that we are in for a shock. Us Australians are strong and we will be fine.
So I guess you can tell Saturday we were a bit hung over. 1. the drinks are 1/3 of the price, hence
you end up drinking more. 2. There is a 24 hour bottle ( the only 24 hour store in the whole town) and it's on our street. So if we have no drinks, its straight to the big apple for a $5 six pack and
$3 bottle of wine! Anyway got up and rode our bikes to the farmers market (which is our fav
place to get supplies). The Farmers market is set up in a parking lot next to the river.
Everyone sets up a stall, just like Subiaco Markets.
We got milk, eggs, jam, vegetables, fruit and some home made bakery treats
After getting our weekly vegetable we were off to Pats (the local diner) for a breakfast.
Sunday morning we rode our bikes to campus for the canoe trip.
When we got there the canoes were not ready. Someone had hired them out and
not put them back. This meant Jordan and the tour guides had to go and collect the canoes from another area and load them on the trailer. The start time was delayed by 30 mins.
Anyway we were on our way to Donnell Pond.
After making 2 wrong turns by our stoner, bandanna, mellow guide we finally made it!!!
It was a beautiful sunny day today. The pond was stunning.
We were off on the canoes with all the other international students.
We met people from Serbia, Sir Lanka, Russia, India, China, Iran and Japan.
Everyone was really friendly and it was nice to meet people other than Americans
It is nice to speak to people in the same situation as you.
After canoeing for an hour, half the group set out on a hike.
It was very steep and I was out of breath! We finally made it to the top of the mountain.
The views were well worth the wait. Very breathtaking. Had an amazing fun day.
When we got back to the uni. The tour guide reversed the trailer of canoes into another car!
Ha ha. Totally mellow college kids!
We got back home after a long day and decided to head to the pub for a beer.
The walk home was freezing and we ran home most of the way.
This week I have 2 prelims. My first tests. We have ultimate Frisbee, I have my dressage & equestrian meetings, we hope to play tennis with our new international friends, squash and my mum and dad get here on Saturday. We are really enjoying it here and still can't believe we are in America.
Loving traveling and can't wait to see more!
Missing all our Australian family, friends and pets!!!!
