Monday 16 July
Up showered with water bottle then cycled to happy cemetery, where all the grave stones are wooden and have painted humorous stories and pictures about the occupants life. Slight tourist damage and trap but very funny. Visited new nuns monastery where some construction was still taking place all in wood. Feeling of wealth watching head nun bossing workers about in very hot temperatures. Told bad habit joke to no reaction. Back to Sighet to find the former house of 1986 nobel peace prize winner Elie Wiesel who coined the phrase holocaust. Went to supermarket to buy some food and failed to get cash from atm. On the road again and so hot had to stop for a beer. More or less straight away a cyclist came from the other direction and joined us for a drink after Lehel had shouted to him. The slightly overweight Austrian latin, greek lecturer wanted a good old drink and smoke with fellow cyclists. He gave us an Austrian sausage and we exchanged stories, but after 3 beers and some micky taking out of Lehel, Lehel brought matters to an end, much to our dismay. My phone was been charged in the bar so went back and got it then decided to return all bottles but knocked them all over breaking one, must have been slightly sloshed. Cycled past beautiful carved wooden gates, to wealth ridden monastery, offered girls a lift on bike to much amusement. Went past a cycling grim reaper, a scythe attached to his bike. Set up camp in field, but promised food failed to materialise perhaps due to beer over indulgence.
