Bustyna to Sapanta (Romania)
Sunday 15 July
Woken up by herds of horses and cattle. Had shower in front of the cowboys from a bottle of water, packed and cycled to border through villages with many unfinished new houses. Hot so lots of rests. At crossing Lehel went ahead as I was messing about looking for passport, which I was a little unhappy about as I wanted him to take some photos of me. Lots of people crossing on foot so had to queue up for quite a while. They were all carrying 200 cigarettes. Noticed all car drivers were paying the border guard bribes and very large petrol tanks for such small cars. Over wooden historically important and newly restored bridge over the Tisa, with lots of money changers and cigarette sellers on. Into Sighet and a feel of wealth...well compared to Ukraine. First bar we came across asked for some information then got guided tour of cellars unfortunately empty, by very friendly manager. Went to prison museum where Romanian politicians and academics were taken by the communists in the 1947 reign of terror where most died. To bar for a drink then cycled towards Sapanta, camping up a hill and watched fantastic sun set and clear night for stars.
