Tuesday 11th July
They didn't except credit cards, nor dollars at the museum, so they let me in for free. Spent 6 hours round the excellent museum in a nazi built power station, which was all about the invention of the army V1 and navy V2 rockets on that site. Asking at the shop after if anything of interest was around they told me through a Danish interpreter of a V1 rocket ramp 2k away. Gave me a map which turned out to be from 1945 which hardly had any relevance, so no surprises got lost after walking through forest and ending up on an airfield. This bloke came down the runway on a motorbike so I flagged him down and he very kindly dropped me off at a fenced off area. Broke through the fence cutting legs on barbed wire to find partially destroyed V1 rocket launch ramp, this must have been 5k from museum. Walked down the beach, onto a runway, walking the whole length back to the airport, even having a plane take off in front of me at 90 degrees. Jogged it back to the station to find I'd missed the train by 5mins. Went for a walk round the town (a bit like Imber on Salisbury Plain) as I was desperate for a drink. Found bar which accepted dollars so had 2 pils 3 wheat beers and a Peenemunde fish special which consisted of 7 different smoked and raw fish. Caught the last train back and I realised I absolutely stunk of fish so as the train was packed I put my smelly fingers under my armpits and tried not to breath, obviously not working, hopefully they thought it was the women.
