Left Hanoi by bus to travel to Halong Bay. It really is an interesting country and very entertaining to see sometimes four people on a scooter, sometimes a pig on the back and sometimes the heaviest and bulkiest things! We stopped to visit a "happy room" at a factoring run for disabled children, was a bit of a rip-off but at least we supported a good cause.

Happy room is the term they use for a toilet, as our guide explained, "You see people go in walking funny and frowning, but when they come out they are walking comfortably and smiling = happy room."

Halong Bay is stunning!! It is even better than in the pictures! We went on a cruise ship, we boarded at about lunchtime and slept the night. In the afternoon they took a small boat out to surprise caves, our guide was so cautious about it that only four of us went the rest felt that they would not make it. But it was about 100 steps up and then into the cave which in enormous and very hot!!! I am so glad I did not let him put me off of going. We also had a good view of the bay coming out of the cave.

Watched a movie on the deck called Indochine, I really struggled to keep awake but managed to see the beginning and the end bits. We then had a good sleep in our air conditioned cabin and then disembarked.
