Wanted to see the attractions of the most famous playa on the island - overrated - the 2' strip of black sand they call a beach around these parts is apparently much bigger in dry season as lake levels drop!

The only people in the water were families fishing with their net curtains/mossie nets - the women & girls hold it open while the boys splash from shore chasing the fish into the nets! The men are off drinking beer, lying in the hammock or playing footie it seems!

Still, lovely breezes on this side of the island so even the lake gets waves which you get to hear crashing to shore from your room.

Breezes meant the walk to the local, not hot at all, springs were pleasant & got to see locals threshing their rice on the way back.

Did a far less pleasant 1.5k (felt more!) jungle walk - thankfully nobdy to collect overpriced entry fee. Trail is big volcanic rock chunks - no chance to look up or around as have to place feet carefully. Stopping allows bugs & ants to start crawling all over you. Heard some birds & monkeys but saw none - the bats were the saving grace, roosting in the tree trunks.

Finally emerged onto the main road & there was a big group of white faced monkeys!
