We arrived in Hervey Bay with the main objective being our trip to Fraser Island. We found a nice Hostel in Ro... Backpackers where we got a cheap enough deal to go to the Island for two nights and 3 days. So when we got to the hostel at about 6 that evening we were informed that there would be a briefing on the trip. This Island could be dangerous in parts apparently... First thing was first. There would be 2 team of 9 people in each van. We were still traveling in an intimidating pack of 10 so the decision was made to split our group right down the middle and have 5 of us in each van and then 4 newbies. The teams were made, the self proclaimed " A Team" and the named "B Team"... Why? Well that would all become clear in the next few days. We were told this briefing would be boring so we were allowed get the drink in, you didnt have to ask Grahamo twice! We watched a video where we were dealt some useful tips, among the vest of these were... If a Dingo attacks you for God's sake please cross your arms! AND, make sure you don't run over any people who are sleeping on the beach... Useful things such as, don't drive in the salt water were subsequently ignored by some... We were told we would be driving around in 2 pink jeeps too so we were already a target for pretty much every other team on the Island we ran into! After the team briefing we all had to come up with our shopping lists for the next few days. These goods would be bought the next morning in Woolies. Got plenty of meat, beans, curry powder, pasta, drink and a few little treats on the list so we were all happy to go our seperate ways for the night and meet up and the Rendez vous point the next morning. Before we left we pretty much all had to do some washing which turned out to be an absolute night mare the nght before leaving... Two dryers that half worked for everyone to use. And only 4 washers... mayhem so its probably now time to admit that some sabotage did go on....
After a trip to hungry Jacks that night we had a few pints in the hostel bar and then it was time for bed. Next stop Fraser Island.
