Leaving Arlie we didn't really realize how long a drive we had ahead of us. We knew that Hervey Bay and the Fraser Islands were at least 16 hours away but no one really fancied driving the whole way through the night so we decided to wing it and stop for the night in the first hick town that looked like we'd stand a fighting chance in.

Little did we know what lay ahead, SARINA will forever be etched in our memories as "that" town. After around 6 hours of driving we rocked up to this town (the biggest on the map for some while). There didn't seem to be any accommodation so we went looking, there was something not right with this place. First hostel we look for was down a place called smuggletons lane, eh no thanks. Next was dead man's alley, reckon we'll pass. Having seen the film Wolf Creek we knew the score. It was move on to the next big town or get a few bottles of whiskey and hit the beach for the night. The group was split fifty fifty on this but (thank be jaysus) we decided that we still had a lust for life and drove on into the darkness. The heavy fog didn't help matters and poor old Clivo (the only one with a driving license in one car) was putting out a marathon effort. With powers crammed in the back it was decided that a name game was the only safe option. Sweets was chosen as the topic and I tell you no lies, this game became a marathon in itself lasting over four hours. Eventually we arrived in Rockhampton all felling very nostalgic and longing for the sweets you just cant get these days.

The hostel was basic but everyone was out like a light. The next morning we got a decent fry next door and got a few camping supplies for the upcoming trip to Fraser. It was also time to say goodbye to Powers and Jennie who had decided that they had to go home, they were literally that broke after living the dream for so long in NZ and Oz. Sorry sheep its just your time, they will be missed for all the craic and good times we had with them. Teary eyed the group headed off, next stop the biggest sand island in the world and a whole new adventure, Ave it!!
