On the morning of the 26th May, the time had come to leave our home Sydney. It was a sad time but an exciting time as we were about to go back to our backpacking ways...Or so we thought, we were a bit out of practice with the budgeting ways so lets be honest we flashpacked the shit out of the net few weeks!!
Craig, Conor and Donny Lad had a lovely breakfast of a Hurricanes rack of ribs (courtesy of Ian Lew taking us all out for a going away dinner the night before! Thanks Ian!). We all got a few strange looks eating these messy ribs at the airport at 5 in the morning but they were well worth it.
We got to Cairns which turned out to be a bit of a hick town. We had a legend of a taxi driver who took a liking to Laura and said the snakes here were "waiting to pounce on some pussy" - Good man Alf Stewart.
We checked into the impressive on paper hostel Gilligans. The place had en-suite rooms, 5* Kitchens, great beds, TV rooms, gym and a bar and swimming pool... The staff however, had as much manners as a bum at a buffet. They were the most ignorant unhelpful people in the world. So bad that after writing this I am going to leave plenty of comlaints on any hostel goer web page possible..! Apparrently we were the nightmare booking, especially. Well there was 10, sometimes 12 and sometimes 14 of us but nonetheless the staff were clearly retarded.
The first day in Cairns Craigo & Clive got on the case sorting out the activities for the days ahead. The Barrier Reef tour boat was booked... Conor and Doni got in a productive couple of hours in the cinema.
We then had a night out on the piss, which was messy at the least (Kings before always leads to a good one!). After roaming the dark streets of Cairns for what seemed like hours noticing most places were closed we stumbled upon The Woolshed - what a place, it's a bit quiet though...!!!
Hangovers intact the next day we strolled around the town
We all got up fairly early and Conor legged it down to get what turned out to be the last place on the sky diving bus! We had a long bus journey, Craigo focused with the ipod and everyone else cracking bad jokes to break the tension. Groups were decided, first up was team China (or was it Korea and Japan), next was Conor, Craig and the English bloke and then it was Donny Lad, Clive and Elaine. We all took the plunge and jumped for our 60 second freefall! What a view and 300 bucks well spent! Good times for all... We could now treat ourselves to a good night out on the piss after a job well done! We also got some interesting facts from our google eduacated Skydiver - Somethin about Koala and his mates trans gender love!
That night was a big one again as we had more traveller freinds arriving again. This time Emma and Asha were back and also Jenny and "I can beat you in Chess in only four moves" Powers!
The next day we picked up our rental cars from Thrifty with Clivo set to do all the driving this time! We set off for a trip to Cape Tribulation... (See other pod cast)
We came back to Cairns that night and got in our first KFC chicken wrap and bought some drink in the bottle"O". We hit the hay and the next morning it was time to hop on the cruise ship for a trip to the grat barrier reef. Conor was an absentee and he wasnt feelin the best that morn but the rest fo the crew had a ball. Everyone went snorkling and also had some good grub from the 4 man/woman crew and were also allowed to part-take in a few tipples after the water activity. A couple got a bit of sunburn and despite the engine trouble they all got home in one piece!
Conor and Grahmo had a great time in the Blues Bar. The lonely planet of 1890 isnt too relaible these days it seems. Surprise, surprise we headed out on this piss again that night!!
The next moring it was time to leave Cairns after an action packed few days... We were headed toward Mission Beach!

. Craig, Donny Lad, Clive and Elaine all booked a sky dive. Clive tried to sell it to Conor that day but he chose to mull over it a bit longer for fear of shitting his pants in the sky... Now that wouldnt be fair on anyone!! Grahmo frantically went around looking for the gun range! We took it fairly easy that night as the next day was a big one for the eye in the sky.We all got up fairly early and Conor legged it down to get what turned out to be the last place on the sky diving bus!
