This day felt like it started @ 9:30 PM Tuesday night, when our bus left. (In other words, it felt like one continuous day) Before departing Tholen, we met for once last time in the Gospeltheek to say goodbye to our host families and bridge builders who would not be joining us in the Czech Republic. Everyone needed to say one thing they enjoyed or appreciated about someone from the group. It was a really great experience for all us to hear how great it had been on both sides. One of the host's (Ali and Debbie's ) said that if all Americans were like the Americans she had met, then she absolutely loves all Americans.
So with love and joy in our hearts we set out to a bus station in The Netherlands. Idwer led our group to our connecting bus, which was like a greyhound public bus (called Eurobus). Again we spent some time waiting for the bus, and finally boarded at 12:30 AM. We stayed on that bus with the exception of several short pit stops in Germany until 1:00 PM when were arrived in Florence, "Praha" (Prague).
Our guide, Vojta met us at the bus station where we took several subways and a bus to our destination for the night, International Baptist Theological Seminary. For what we were expecting out of a youth hostel, it was a very pleasant surprise! Vojta, our guide, told us that the property probably belonged to a type of lord or high-level official from the past.
In the evening we split into two groups and went out to dinner. Some of us enjoyed traditional Czech food, like grilled chicken with a peach and cheese, while others relished in the idea of finally having a simple salad. One thing that we noticed right away was that almost everything in a Czech restaurant is itemized. The realization quickly hit us that we were no longer in the land of "super size me" and free refills.
After dinner we headed into Prague, which is probably one of the most historically beautiful places that I have ever been to. The pictures will give a clue to a small piece of our experience, but I'm sure that they can only give a small glance of the vast beauty we encountered. Even Patrick and Luke got "picture happy", and who could blame them with such a background for it.
Even though this day was trying, the relaxing dinner, surprising accommodations, and beautiful (for lack of a better word) sights were worth the journey.
