So yesterday afternoon I took a mini bus to go to Panajachel near the Lake Atitlan. 3h drive across the hills. The area was hitted by a hurricane last October and you can see along the road the result, collapsed houses and part of the road.
The Lago de Atitlan is a caldera( collapsed volcanic cone) and covers 128 sq km. 3 inactive volacnoes loom over the landscape. The view when you go down to Panajachel is absolutly amazing.
Once in Panajachel, i took a boat to go to San Pedro La Laguna which is one of the most popular lakeside town. It was built on a hill and you can get lost easy in its narrow streets. It's a nice town with its popular bar and restaurant with a view on the lake.

This morning, I walked around town and went to the local market to buy some fruits 1 Lake Atlitan

. At 2pm, I had rented a kayack for a trip on the lake. I thought I'll go with a guide but I ended up going on my own. Well here there is not security rule, you even have to ask for a life jacket... It's absolutly not dangerous, you just have to be careful of the motor boats passing near by. I rented it for 3 hours, and went along the coast to a nice beach. I found it quite hard at the beginning, with the wind and the waves against me but ended up enjoying it. The water is very cold so didn't even try to go swimming, was already cold because the sun soon disapeared behind dark clouds. I came back exactly after 3 hours (didn't have a watch!), all my upbody in pain and cold. But that was a experience, was nice to do something else than hike. Tomorrow it'll be the turn of my legs to work as I'm going hiking to a top of the Volcano San Pedro (3020m). We're leavind at 6am and will be back around 2pm.
