yesterday we traveled from Belize city to Tikal in Guatemala. We took an express bus so for tourist but it took us only 5 hours. A quiet trip, we met an Amercian couple who are travelling like us for 3 months around central america and we might meet up on the way...

We arrived in Tikal at 4 pm and planted our tent, had a shower (cold of course!)then decided to go to see the sunset from a temple. But we left too late and when we arrived it was already too dark. So we had dinner in a small restaurant along the road, Guillaume was a bit afraid we´ll get sick but I told him "oh don´t worry we´ll be fine..." He was of course but i got stomach pain all night. Yeah I´m not used to yet to this food... anyway we slept quite well in my small tent, it was quiet except for the noise from an electricty generator! But we were too tired to notice.

The tikal park is 500 sq km but you can visit only 16 sq km and it´s quite huge! It´s set on an hill in the deep jungle. The Maya settled there around 700 BC but it was abandonned around 900 AC. And it wasn´t until 1848 that the Guatemalan governement sent an expedition to visit the site.

We woke up at 4:30 am this morning to go to see the sunrise. But unfortunally it was too misty to see anything. After a breakfast we went to visit the temples. they are very different from the ones i saw in the other sites. We climbed, climbed and climbed more stairs... and sweat sweat... ´we were in the jungle so very humid and hot, I don´t remember the last time it sweat so much! The sun finally appeared around 9 am.
We saw some monkeys and heard their cries, very loudy one! And a lot of birds.

We took the bus back to Flores at 12:30 and after findind and hotel and eating, went for a tour to take some pictures. Flores was built in an island and is a very colourful village. Tomorrow we´re heading to Rio Dulce and Livingston on the south east coast of Guatemala.
