We are excited again.  We are going to Glacier National Park which we wanted to see for a long time.  It is hard to believe that we are finally going to see the park.  We anticipate this will be a crowded day as it is the 4th of July, Independence Day, a national holiday in the USA.

We entered through the west entrance and parked at Apgar Village.  You must arrive early to ensure a parking spot.  We rode the bus to Lake McDonald and then caught the shuttle to The Loop.  This is the furthest east we can go on Going-to-the-Sun Road.  The road is closed to through traffic due to snow.  This is only the second time in history that the road has been closed past July 1.  At The Loop, we hiked The Loop Trail for a very short distance.  It was only enough to see a waterfall.  We caught the shuttle again to the Avalanche Creek area.  Our plan is to hike Trail of the Cedars and Avalanche Lake.  The trail is 4 miles round trip with 500 feet elevation gain.  The rocky trail runs by Avalanche Creek.  It is a popular trail.  Here again, I come upon an area that I believe is one of the most beautiful in the world.

Again, we left our lunch in the car.  Oh, no!  We are hungry after our hike, and we have to catch the shuttle and then the bus to return back to Apgar Village.  This probably takes close to an hour.  However, our treat is to eat lunch on the western shore of Lake McDonald.  I think by the time we got to eat lunch it was after 3 PM.  We shopped in Apgar Village after our lunch.

On our return back to Whitefish, we ate at Tien's Place Oriental Dining in Columbia Falls.  The food was good, and we had leftovers for the next day.

This is Peggy's final day with us as she is flying home tomorrow.  Linda and I are staying.  It was a good overview of Glacier National Park for her.
