Johnston Canyon has quite a few waterfalls - six or seven. It is 0.7 miles to the Lower Falls, 1.7 miles to the Upper Falls, and 3.6 miles to the Ink Pots, six clear greenish pools filled with spring water that remains at a constant 1-degree Celsius year-round. We left our lunch in the car. I did not really expect that Linda would consent to hike to the Ink Pots. We really wished we had our lunch with us. By our return, it was late in the day, and we were hungry
The hike has a 700 feet elevation gain. It is a well-marked, paved trail to the waterfalls. The trail becomes more rugged as we hike to the Upper Falls. Less people traverse to the ink pots, and the trail becomes more difficult. Take deep breaths and enjoy the scent from the spruce, pine and fir forest.
At the end of the day, we drove back to Banff and decided to eat at Bumpers Beef House again. Still hungry (we did not eat our lunch) and Bumpers not opening until 5 PM, we went to the Cascade of Time Garden and waited until time for the restaurant to open.
