Today was a bit of a 'revisit our favourite places' and 'do stuff we were too lazy to do in the massive amount of time we had last year'. So we walked through the town square, saw the Orloj clock again, ate at Café Slavia (mmmm) and then took a cruise along the Vlatava. This was a great view of the city, even if the recorded commentary wasn't riveting. We saw the amazingly large metronome that marks the place where the huge Lenin statue was (see last year's Communist Museum entry), which swings lazily back and forth. We also saw the ugly part of Prague (yes it exists) that of course stems from the tasteless Red era....seriously, Hotel International and Hotel President...what were you thinking?! Did you look around you?! Did you not think you were heaping enough insult by being there?
We then caught the funicular up the hill towards the mini Eiffel that overlooks the city. And it really is a mini Eiffel. Gustave Eiffel was so buoyed by the reception to his little tower in Paris, that he wanted to build another. The placement in Prague was so far up a hill already overlooking the city, that he only built the top two levels of the original Eiffel Tower. It was still a fair walk up the stairs and at the top of a hill you could feel the wind swaying the delicate structure. And it is incredibly high up as you look down into the valley. Beautiful... but high!
Dinner at the dog pub...nuff said!
