After a very active time visiting and hiking in the National Parks we spent the first day or so hanging out in their house, or more precisely in the pool and hot tub. The house is practically bare as they are still awaiting their furniture to make the Atlantic crossing but they did a good job of borrowing a mattress and blow up bed and Cameron was Isobel's Knight in shining armour as he gave up his bedroom for her and settled into the lounge sofa. It was as though we had not been apart and the location had simply moved from France to the USA
Not content with that excitement we stopped off at Torrey Pines which is wonderfully located on top of the cliffs overlooking the bays and is where Parasailing and Paragliding takes place. It was remarkable to see these guys strapping themselves into a sleeping bag and jumping off the cliff attached to a few bed sheets. Even more remarkable was that they offered the chance to do a tandem flight and as Cameron had some birthday money saved he decided that he wanted to join the daredevil brigade. He and Rohan had to sign and countersign about 20 pages of disclaimers stating that in the event of an accident, then no matter what, it was going to be Cameron’s fault. If they fell, Cameron’s fault, if the lines broke, Cameron’s fault, if a bolt of lightning hit them, blame Cameron, if Hayley’s Comet reappears and burns and slices through the parachute, yep, you got it, Cameron instigated it.
So it was an anxious family that watched in awe as Cameron and his pilot trotted off and then glided gracefully over the edge of the cliff only to reappear moments later soaring into the sky. In fact it was extremely well organised and Cameron had a wonderful time
Now I’ve mentioned briefly the car, sorry Porsche. Well the truth behind it is that it is Rohan’s boss and he has it for a few more weeks until his working visa, social security number etc. come through and he can lease his own. This doesn’t of course stop him, and therefore us, having a laugh in it. Saturday evening and what do you do? Cruise up the Pacific coast with the top down, go to a lovely Italian restaurant, take in a great band at an Irish pub and then cruise back home? Of course that’s what we did, the only difficult part being the fact that is a 2+2, and very small in the back for the chicks and secondly it generates a small hurricane for the rear passengers. Oh yes and these rear passengers have spent an age straightening their hair into perfect salon style examples. Two minutes down the road and they looked like something from The Hair Bear Bunch. Rohan and I still looked cool though.
On Sunday we went for a snack lunch at the trendy Wave House where you can eat and drink whilst watching the surf dudes hang-ten on an amazing artificial wave machine. Then at 2pm each Sunday the place kicks out anyone under 21 and it turns into a nightclub, sorry dayclub for the rich and beautiful. They tried to make us stay in order to attract additional punters but we felt we had to go and see the kids go on the rollercoaster and other mad machines next door.
We had a brill time hanging out in San Diego and it was great to see The Mullins in their new abode. I am sure that they have had a quiet week recovering!
Thanks guys and enjoy your new life!
