We took a four hour flight from Melbourne with Tiger Airways to Perth and as we were approaching the baggage conveyor belt a smiling face sprang out and surprised us. We didn't think that our friend Judy would be allowed in so far but then realised it was an internal flight and big hugs were had by all. We hadn’t seen Judy, Mark and Ella (4 years old now) since we had left Buenos Aires around four years ago and they kindly let us take over their house (another explosion of Cawleyness belongings!) They are just about to start the building of their new house and so we camped out in the lounge of their rented place just across the road from their plot. Ella immediately got Issy to work on the playing action in fact not leaving her side for 3 days! Ella also decided that she could have a sleepover in her bedroom. In fact she even slept on the floor and stuck Issy in her bed!

The next day Jude dropped Issy and me off at the campervan rental centre and we picked up our very own Limey Lizard and home for the next 24 days. The van was so christened as the logo is a gecko and Issy made a sculpture of one when she was at school in England and called that Limey lizard – it all makes sense really! However we decided to drop the van off and all go in to Perth city centre on the local bus, much more convenient. Downtown Perth is now a modern mix of shopping centres, coffee shops and restaurants. I say now as it all looks as though it has gone up in the last few years only. We visited the tourist office which was amazingly helpful for our planned adventure up the west coast for the next 3 weeks. We loaded up on goodies at the local Woolworths (Yes the names the same but it is stocked with wonderful food favourites like Waitrose is in the UK – very up market darling!) The Cawleys endeavoured to make a special meal for our wonderful hosts that evening washed down by a gorgeous bottle of Mark’s best Argentinean wine (we were honoured guests!)

We ventured out further the next day to Kings Park which has a magnificent view of the bay and where you can see the joining of the Swan and Canning Rivers. There is an Anzac war memorial and glass walk way around a beautiful botanical water and plant garden. We all learnt about the native trees and vegetation of Western Australia. We drove to Cottisloe where there is a lovely beach but a little too cold for us warm weather Cawleys nowadays! We had a yummy lunch overlooking an idyllic sea view at the Blue Duck. Fremantle is famous for the Americas Cup being held there about 10 years agoand we wandered around the markets and pretty streets. Judy and Mark took us to their local pub that evening where we had a delicious gourmet food! Thanks for all your generosity Baldocks!
