The first two nights in Rio were massive, New Years to be expected, the night before less so....

Straight from the airport, it was a matter of a few hours before the "Gang of Five" reconvened on an afternoon booze cruise around the Rio harbour.  Cups of beer stacking up was always trouble, at 30 odd cups the idea of a "Boonie 52" was placed in my head and that spelt the end.  I have complete memory loss at 45 - apparently I made 55!  The next memory I have is waking up in my bed in nothing but my newly acquired Brazilian togs...  trouble.

The last day of 2006 was spent blanket apologizing to everyone in the hostel and working out exactly what had happened the previous afternoon and night - I had not been well behaved.    Lowlights incude...  falling out of the bus, falling off the boat, getting lost in the hostel and falling over a ladder, eating the BBQ meat off the plate declaring "thats how it is done in Australia".  The absolute lowlight, being involved in an arguement with the manager, which upon losing I dropped my pants and wandered around the hostel in nothing but my white Brazilian DTs proclaiming I was an Australian boxer - embarassing!

Either way 2006 was over - more than a reason to celebrate!!!  New Years celebrations on Copacabana were amazing, the fireworks spectacular.  As with Rio tradition everyone was dressed in white - Gunther the outfits went down a treat, even if we did look like we belonged in a boy band.  Emily´s midnight disappearence treatening to knock her off the top shelf and Rossy´s 2am samba lesson in his DTs priceless.  The walk to Ipanema an experience, Im sure Ali appreciated the prostitutes apologizing to her for trying to chat up Rossy.  On arriving in Ipanema I managed to lose everyone and luckily run into Anna-Marie from the hostel, thanks so much for the company on that long walk home.

I think it might be time for a few quiet nights.  A crazy end to a crazy year.  Im sure when I look back on 2006, as any disappointments fade and the stories and memories of locuming and travelling grow I will appreciate even more how much I have pushed the envelope and just how good the last year has been.
