Having used Louis' house as our stop over point twice (with the intention of doing it once more still) and Louis giving ua countless lifts here and there (or enrolling Sias to do so), it was finally time to spend some actual time with him and in his house. This however, did not consist of seeing actual Joburg as he'd assured us there wasn't much too see, nor was it safe, nor did he want us going there!
So we had 3 days in Louis' house whilst he was at work. Boring most would say, but Laura and I were quite happy by the thought of chilling in a house with a TV, making our own lunches and getting a chance to catch up on blogs. There was a pool but considering the day time temperate was about 10-15 celcius, night 1 and the pool about 5, there was no chance of that being used
To break the 3 days up a bit, on the 2nd day Laura and I took the assured by Louis safe half an hour walk to the East Rand Shopping Mall. We went to the flee markets first where Laura bought a big bowl and I bought 2 smaller giraffe to go with my big one from Kenya, so all 3 will descend in size and look nice! After our last, last bit of souvenir shopping (this is what we told ourselves) we went to the local clothes shops, and once again amazed by how cheap they are, did a bit of clothes, bag and shoe shopping. Oops. But we also bought a rucksack for £4 to be our extra bag in the hold. We were going home with 4 bags in the hold! Baring in mind 2.5 of that was Laura's I think I've done alright for a year of travelling!
With Louis back from work in the evenings, we were able to spend some more time with him. On the first night, we ordered delicious take away pizza and chilled with silly tv. The second night, going to a supermarket after our shopping spree, Laura cooked a fish pie and apple crumble with me as her assistant, which was all really nice (and all the fish for a minuscule £8 and we made enough for 6 rather than 3!)
And on Thursday morning Louis dropped us off for our final thing in SA, our safari. We are very grateful to Louis for everything he's done for us whilst we've been in Joburg, so with him heading to England the same day we go to Dubai, we have given who he's staying with some £s to hopefully show him how much we appreciate it. We have been so unbelievably lucky with the generosity of people we have stayed with on our travels, and when we're back in England hopeful can return that generosity. For example, we are meeting with Eva and Brad (from Napier, New Zealand) the second week we're back in England! I don't think any of us thought we'd be seeing each other so soon!
