1st Oct.
Got up just before 8am and was on the road heading towards Charleston by 9am. Passing across the boundary of North & South Carolina we stopped off at the Welcome Centre to pick up a map of South Carolina and gather information. After a couple of hours chatting with the staff & surfing the net we left with our laptop fully charged and some idea of where we were going to camp tonight. We continued along I-26 until the junction with US176 and then continued south on this route. This was a quieter, slower and hopefully a little less windy road. We made a few stops along the way for fuel and a few supplies and stopped for lunch in Sumter National Forest at Mollys Rock Recreational Area. Our final destination was either going to be Walmart in Mount Pleasant or Holly Hill Recreational Area in Francis Marion National Forest. We made it to the forest just as the light disappeared and picked a spot in between trees and started preparing dinner. Five minutes later, there was a bang on our door and someone pointing out that apparently we had chosen someone else's spot, so we moved across the gravel loop road into the centre and again started preparing dinner. No bang on the door, so hopefully we're ok. After dinner we watched an episode of Hotel Babylon and then went to bed.
