11th Sept.

Up at 7.30am, had breakfast and headed towards Cape Breton Island around 8.30am. Jumped back on the Trans Canada Highway and stopped off at Port Hastings to check emails and gather information. We left there around 10am and continued along the TCH, then side tracked to Lake Ainslie and onto the Cabot Trail. First stop was at Joe's Scarecrow Village, Cap Le Moine, which turned out to be just a lot of scarecrows with weird & celebrity masks on, including Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and The Queen. We left Joe's behind and entered Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Now this is where the scenery became serious. Along the west coast, we had beautiful coastal views of cliffs and bays. We stopped at almost every view point and some of the short walks. Beautiful! We then headed down the east coast, again with lovely coastal views, but then once we left the park turned into forest views. However, we did get a nice view from the top of Cape Smokey. Instead of finishing on the Cabot Trail, we took an alternative scenic route which had a ferry at the end of it. We have to admit, although only a very short journey, it was quite scary, as it was quite choppy and the ferry was blown side ways a couple of times. Landed, safely on the otherside, we pulled up to make dinner. Then we headed off, again on the TCH, towards Sydney, to find Walmart, for another night.
