However, before Fredericton, in Prince William, is an historical settlement called Kings Landing. In a way, it was similar to Barkerville, BC. The one difference being, that every home, workshop, store, etc had character actors 'living &/or working' there. It's a 'living history village', where they actually grow their own veg, make there own bonnets, blankets, barrels, etc. It was really very interesting to here everyone's story and great fun to take part in their Agricultural Fair competitions. Between the two of us, we took home 3 first place ribbons and 3 second place ribbons. For those interested the results were as follows:
Pancake eating contest – Cat second place (by default as actual 2nd
place left before ribbons handed out)
Corn eating contest – Not placed, we were enjoying the corn too much!
Lumberman's competition: Cross cut – Not placed (we were robbed we should have
got third in the mixed couples but they gave it to a two man team who
didn't even cut a whole piece off)
Log toss – Dean not placed in the men's & Cat first in the ladies' (top man
got 12 points, Cat got 11 even though she was allowed to throw from
half way down the pitch – that's not the point, though, I still got
Domestic's competition: Washing/hanging – Cat first, Dean second
Dishwater toss – Dean first, Cat second
Yarn ball winding – Not placed, got a snag!
Before, during and after all this excitement we also took part in a baseball game, country dancing and watched a most amusing little show
Got up around 8am, had breakfast then went to the office to pay, (as we got there late and they said pay in the morning), and leave. Problem was, there was no-one around to pay so we had to hunt around to find the owner or an office worker. We eventually found some workmen fixing a roof and asked if the owner was around. They said that he was out but one of the lads could come down to the office so we could settle our bill.
