26th July cont.

Once we had finished at Little Bighorn, we got on Highway 90 until we reached Billings to fuel up and stock up on some dinners. We then carried on the highway towards Yellowstone National Park. We still had 100 miles to go and just after Red Lodge we started to climb the mountains. We were doing ok until Brian started his coughing and spluttering that he'd done before when we broke down in Kamloops! Half way up a steep bit we decided to go back down to Red Lodge and get him checked out. All three of the garages in Red Lodge were far too busy to have a look, but one guy said try a guy 10 miles out and called him for us to see if he could fit us in. He could and suggested we get a fuel pump just in case. So we bought the pump ($20) and drove out (as it drove fairly ok on the flat). We arrived at Adam's place and before we could even get out of the van, he had asked his partner to check the fuel line before fitting the new part. Sure enough the pipe that connects to the fuel tank needed replacing so it wasn't the pump. Only problem was that the fuel line they had was the wrong size. So Adam phoned his wife to pick some up on her way home. As we had an hour or so to wait, we got chatting to the guys and we ended up having a go on Adam's AK47 in the back yard. Yep, you heard right, we both had a go at firing a semi automatic machine gun. It was so cool, we only fired it into dirt and it was only one shot per finger trigger but it was a cool experience. Not long after 6pm, Adam's wife came back with the pipe and they soon fitted it and we got on our way $40 lighter. We headed back into town to find the campsite a few miles on the other side, but it was pretty expensive so we decided to use the free primative one by a flowing river just down the road. We checked with someone else that it was ok and then got on with dinner. After dinner we had a wash with the solar shower and then settled in for the night.

27th July.

Up early at 7.15am from a pleasant night by the river, had breakfast and then drove down to Napa to return the fuel pump.
