Where I stayed
Del Rey Hotel, Foz do Iguacu
Rude awakening at 5am and quick freshen up before checking out and getting onto our bus at 5:30. Today we are traveling to Sao Paulo which will take about 6 hours. From here we will take a flight to Iguazu. Sao Paulo is the biggest city in Brazil with a population of 22 million people. There are more cars in this city than the whole of Rio de Janeiro state (Sao Paulo is in a different state as is Iguazu so we will be in 3 states today) so traffic is a nightmare. There are 500 helicopters in this city and the wealthy use these to travel to work to avoid the traffic! There are more helipads in this city than the whole of England.
See Kylie & Kellie - even now I pay attention and remember what the tour guide tells us!
We arrived at Sao Paulo airport around 11:30am and our flight was scheduled to depart at 1:30pm. The flight was with TAM and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the plane and the staff.
As we got closer to Foz do Iguazu (Brazil) we looked out the window and low and behold, my first good look at the Iguazu Falls - amazing! Makes me very excited about all I will experience over the next couple of days. We landed at around 3pm so decided to stop of at the Bird Park on our way to the hotel. What a wonderful place. We got to see so many of the native birds of the Amazon - the Tucan's were my favourite although the parrots were the most amazing vivid colours.
We will be going out for dinner tonight then our day starts at 8am tomorrow when head head into Argentina to experience the falls from that side. We will also be doing a boat trip that takes us under the falls so we are planning to get very wet. Just as well as it is hot hot hot here.
Today is Fiona´s birthday so we went out to dinner to celebrate. I ordered a mushroom risotto but without even knowing, it was served with a steak. I pity vegetarians who travel here! Great food and a fun night. Rebecca (our tour leader) organized a cake and balloons and of course we had caprihina's all round!
