Yesterday we arrived in Udaipur- India's most romantic city, where lots of rich Indian families hold weddings. We arrived late and we went straight down to dinner. As the hotel is lovely we thought that we were in for a treat. I was in search of meat but Ruby tells us as we sit down that the restaurant is vegetarian- it went down well!! Everyone selected, but what materialised on my plate was not what I ordered. Apparently the chef that makes that dish had a day off!!! The pasta resembled snot and the chips were not even good. The only safe thing to order from that menu was spring rolls or naan bread (although naan bread in the UK is much better, Indian naan breads are more like chapattis). Some people went across the road for pizzas but I soldiered on with my green undercooked chips. At least we all had a good laugh about it!!

The next day we went for a walk around the city. It is very pretty- set around a lake. Ruby took us to Janak arts where they gave us a demonstration of miniature painting. Afterwards they painted some Indian motifs on our nails- mine was an elephant. We then had lunch by the lake. It was really warm and I got a bit of sunburn. Slowly getting warmer but it's still very cold at night. After lunch we went on a boat trip around the lake. It was very relaxing and I almost fell asleep. We got a good view of Lake Palace (which is now a hotel) and city Palace. Apparently the James Bond film Octopussy was filmed here, must watch it when I get home.

We saw a passing wedding parade- there were about 9 or 10 brides all dressed in their traditional red saris. The couples were all numbered so that everyone got married to the right partner! I presume that they must have been arranged marriages. The brides looked quite nervous, understandably so I guess.

We went to watch some traditional Rajastani dancing at the cultural exhibition and I managed to take some good pictures, after the show we were all starving so we went to eat dinner at a roof top place with a good view of Lake Palace. We watched the wedding fireworks across the city and I even saw a heart shaped one- was very impressed!
