Second day of the Mekong delta boat trip today started early and was nothing if not educational, visiting floating fish farms (the house is on top); a traditional Cham village to have a closer look at the houses built on stilts - and to watch local women weaving beautiful sarongs; and a workshop making incense sticks.
Aaron and I left the others at lunchtime to be taken to the outskirts of the village to stay with a local family - in fact, the driver of our boat, Mr Hong - who lived in a house just set back from the river on one of the delta islands.
We had lovely food, I went for a walk round the edge of the island (and was treated like minor royalty, what with the smiling, waving and "he-llo"s) and in the evening got roundly beaten at a card game with incomprehensible rules, but lots of shouting. We were given an "interesting" drink, made of what I can only describe as greeny-brown goo, with sugar and ice cubes, which I struggled to finish.
Mr Hong, Aaron and I set off early in the morning, breakfasting on the boat, to pick up the rest of the gang in Cantho. We were taken to see a couple of 'floating markets', a rice factory and rice-paper making workshop - local sunhats provided (and very much needed)!
