Road trip in rental car through yucatan from Cancun to Valladolid, our first stop in this amazing journey!   Locals were very friendly but they could not understand me at all when we were already lost in Cancun. "Where is Valladoid?!?!" Later, i learned that it pronounced "VY-uh-doe-LEED".

***Video includes all the highlights of our road trip to Valladoid***

This is our first lunch since arrived. Strengthen our immune system to prevent from Swine flue, we stopped a small store and tried the street food. The BBQ chicken was precooked and kept insde of those white coolers the owner rest his arm on.

We did not know how to reach to the toll road, so we took our first 130km on local road. Mistake was there were so many speed bumps and each time we slow down, kids approaches and selling produces or just begging for moneys.  Lesson No. 1: "Don't use the local road especially your time is limited."

One particular produce brought to our attention is this lyme looking fruits.
We could not resist our curiosity, and after passed by several people holding these peculier fruits, i opened my side mirror and bought a bunch for 20 pesos. While i was buying, a few more kids came out of no where to sell their stuffs and one girl put her baby cotamundi which squeaked loudly in front of my face.  At first we did not know how to eat this fruit! After eating a few, i got a knack of cracking the skin and eat the little orangish-pinkish colored fruit. It is actually 80% seed tasted like a lychee. Later, we also learned it is called "guaya".

My first experienc with the Sopa de Lima at the stand in the bazar municipal in the north east corner.Sopa de lima is a chicken soup made with strips of tortilla, tomatoes, peppers and lots of lime.  Fredrik had a quick sampling of panucho (turkey tacos).

We had a fantastic yucatan cuisine at restaurant called El Mesón del Marqués right on the main square. I had the Mayan chicken dish ( forgot the name) with green thick sause and tomato sauce on top (at front on pic) and Fredrik had a Cochinita Pibil ( He, however, makes better pibil than here, in my opinion....).

A coffee shop right next to the hotel we stayed. Cappuchinos before leaving valladoid to Chichen Itza looking over the main sqare. Chichen Itza is only 30 min. drive from Valladoid.
