We had an interesting journey to Mal Pais. Due to being out of season the shuttle 'tourist' bus was not available, so we had to go local and risk the pickpockets and the dodgy San Jose bus depot. Actually turned out to be really easy and the people were helpful. The 1st coach went to Punterenas and was both comfy and lots of legroom, which made the longlegged one happy.....and they even stopped to let the food and drink man on to sell us stuff. Happy days!
Once at Punterenas, we had to change some dollars, which involved a bit if a which point Mr F threw his toys out of the pram and insisted he was not going to carry BOTH packpacks in the heat!! So I reluctantly put my backpack on and walked outside and flagged a cab to the ferry terminal.....don't want to overdo it!!
Took a 1 hr ferry ride to Paquera...not much to see as it was starting to get a bit misty and the closer we got the more the rain came which point Mr F was glad of the decent cagoul...thanks mum. We managed to just catch the next local bus, standing room only....not much fun as it was going to be 1 hr plus. Anyway eventually we got a seat....but luck ran out as smoke started coming out of the exhaust and the bus eventually broke down. 30 mins later another one arrived and we made it to Cobano. Now for the final leg, we decided to get a taxi to Mal Pais, which was a boneshaker of a ride, to put in perspective the most common mode of transport here is quad bikes!
Mal Pais is v quite at the mo, we're out of season. We're the only guests at our resort and only couple at the restaurant across the road, and had our sunset guessed it, on our own. We're really happy tho...muy tranquillo...and Mr F hasn't got grumpy yet.....still plenty of time yet.
Rains gone the past 2 days, suns out, surfs up and lesson is tomorrow. Met the instructor pressure at all..... he said you need to master the balance board ie. balance on a small sur board on a log, otherwise theres no point teaching you. Managed to do it.....must have recognised that 'totem pole Freeman' had done surfing before, as he didn't have to do it!
