Luxor was another great place to see and experience history. There are tons of ruins nearby, including all of the famous ones - Luxor, Valley of the Kings, Tut's Tomb etc.

I grew tired of the scammers and regular tourist bits, so I decided one day to just walk out into the desert. The area round Luxor is loaded with literally hundreds of tombs, most of which have barely  been cataloged, let alone explored. Many of these are bricked up, but others are still open, just the way tomb robbers left them thousands of years ago. I explored through several of these ruins, and even walked down one of them to the actual tomb chamber with a flashlight. It was probably the most fun Ive had in a long time.

I also walked through some very non-tourist parts of the city, an authentic market and some rural farmland, before taking a felucca boat back for the evening. It was a good couple days there.
