Athens was another place, like all of Greece, filled with fond memories from years before. I mainly spent my short time here walking around and seeing how much the city had changed in the 6 years since I had last been there. To my surprise a fair amount of small things had indeed changed, largely due to the 2004 Olympics (I had been there in early 2004, before the Olympics. The Greeks are a culture of people who do everything last minute, so most of the Olympic preparations and rebuilding were undone when I last visited).

Like in Thessaloniki, I found myself nostalgicly walking the curved streets and visiting various Greek Ruins. Pleasures I wasn't expecting, such as wandering into a small church and suddenly remembering this was the first Orthodox church I had ever entered, came at me when I was least expecting it.

As with so many places before this, it would have been nice to stay there longer, of course. But this trip is about moving forward, so I will have to save a longer revisit to the country for some later date. Hopefully when I return the country will be in a happier place financially.

I'm sure the nostalgia will remain.
