Today in Canberra we had a full day! When we woke up we went to get breakfast and took showers to be ready for the day! We had a later start today at 10 am!

We took the city bus to the Australian war memorial. We were there last night for the closing ceremonies, but this time we got to see the actual building and learn a lot about Australian war history.
The tour was interesting to learn about the different purposes of each thing inside the memorial. There were stained glass that each had words that meant something to the Australian forces. Those words were audacity, endurance, decision, control, coolness, resource, candiru, devotion, curiosity, independence, loyalty, chivalry, patriotism, ancestors, and comradeship. It was really interesting to hear about the Australian viewpoint of the war. I really had a fun time. Fred actually came up to me and asked if I was okay today... But really I just put my eye drops in because they hurt me! Haha it was a funny story that I thought I would share!

Anyway after we left the memorial, we went to the bus stop and had to wait for a bit to catch the next one! It wasn't a bad stop; however the public transportation here isn't that great. About 20 minutes later the bus shows up and we take it to the next museum called the Australian national gallery.

At the gallery we took two different groups around the museum because our group is so large. It was nice being in a smaller group. I enjoyed the few paintings we saw. It was a great look into the history and the importance of art that Australians feel. The expression of aboriginal art is amazing and it reflects how they feel about their land and their lives. The land is so important to them and I feel that their art really reflects their journey of keeping their land sacred. We also went though the museum and looked at Gallipoli art. It is such an important part of the Australian history. Every soldier died because they were blindsided by Turkey. It is such a sad story, but each soldier took the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

We also looked at the Ned Kelly series. This is a part of Australian culture that is very controversial. We talked about each painting that Sidney Nolan had made. It was kind of cartoonish. But it made the series look really cool. Also it was in order from the first part of the story of Ned Kelly until the trial. You should look up the series because we were not allowed to have our cameras for the entire museum!

After the museum we went back to the hotel and then pretty much went straight to dinner. The mall closes early at 5:30 so we had to go to dinner, and we decided to get Mexican food in the food court. The food was really good and I'm glad that we decided on Mexican! I was kind of craving some Mexican food!

After we got back from food we got ready and the guys came and got us to go downstairs to the bar. So now we are about to head downstairs! It's been a good, but long day at the museums! I've been having a great time!

Tomorrow we get to go to the USA embassy. I'm so excited to go there! It's going to be fun and I'm excited for the experience! We also have to walk about a mile 1/2 to get there so it will be interesting! After that we have the rest of the day off, so we may go segwaying down the river, or the zoo. But we are definitely going to target to get a few essentials for the next day and our road trip to Sydney! We are so excited to be there! I can't wait, but here's to one more day and night in Canberra!

See you next time!
