The morning of the 29th we left the beach and 5 buses later we were in the mountains in a quaint little mountain town called Alegria. A long day on buses which means of course little food, but we are used to that by now. Settled into our smallest room yet, smaller than many closets (but then again I am used to sleeping in a closet!). Our room, meant for one person, was just a mattress on the floor. But it would suit our needs for the night. The hostel which was also an artists workshop was nice though.  Got some lunch and went in search for the mirador of a 100 steps. We never found this spot but we did wander down the main road just a bit outside of town with great views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. Met an American Salvadorian and chatted with him for awhile and got a ride back to town with him. I had some pie and hot chocolate and Casey had some cake and coffee and we played cards and relaxed. Later that night  we found a good pupusaria and called it a night.
Woke early on the 30th to get a hike in before we left town. There were no restaurants open this morning so we grabbed some pan dulce and hiked to Lago Alegria. We found our way this time with no problems. The hike was really a walk along a cobbled road up toward the lake. It is a crater lake in the remains of an old volcano. It was nice. Stayed about 5 minutes and walked back to town to pack and leave.
Again no pics, sorry. Picture a cute small sleepy town in the mountains.
