First of all, we want to wish you all a very merry christmas and happy holidays! Be sure to watch the video in the photo section of this entry to see just how sincere we are about this... We caught a ride from our crazy guide Manolo part way to our next destination, since he was on his way to pick up some Lonely Planet authors and take them on a tour. Then three buses later, we rolled in to a fairly remote and beautiful beach with a simple hotel that we had
nearly to ourselves. The one downside was that before we arrived we were not aware of a kitchen for guests to cook their own food and also did not know that there were no restaurants nearby. So we were stuck without food or transport to buy groceries, and forced to eat off the overpriced (and gross) menu of the hotel...not that either of us had much of an appetite anyway. After sitting on the beach relaxing for a few hours, and watching an awesome sunset, Matt started to feel cold and was soon shivering, despite the fact that I was quite comfortable in my swimsuit

01 Brace your ears for this one!
. He wrapped himself in a sleeping bag and flopped down on the bed, complaining of a headache and achey muscles too. I took his temperature at 102 (if our cheap thermometer is accurate). Then began his frequent and rapid visits to the bathroom. He managed to drink some tea and eat some plain bread and doze for the rest of the evening. Meanwhile, I was rereading the medical section of the guide book which was completely useless since he had all the symptoms for everything, dengue fever, malaria, leptospiroris, or just regular traveller´s diarrhea...We called it an early night, although frequently interrupted by bathroom visits, mine which started half way through the night as well. Nonetheless, Matt´s fever cooled and he was feeling much better, although not 100%, the next morning. I never got a fever or aches, but my digestive system suffered as well. We deduced that this was nothing serious, just an inevitable part of five months of travel in developing countries and had been amazed at our good luck up until this point. We spent the entire day sitting in the shade of an UM-brella that was a good comprise of distance from the beach with distance from the bathrooms, read, and drank lots of water. We did venture out for a swim in the ocean and I got tumbled in the surf which put me in a bad mood for a while. Another incredible sunset, and then actually being hungry, we paid more than we normally would be willing to have a good dinner delivered to us from the nearest pueblo, then headed to bed. The next morning we said goodbye to the beach and packed up, popped some Immodium, and took the only bus of the day at noon. We are heading to a cool mountain town called Jauyua for Christmas, should be fun to spend it there.
