Took a boat and a bus to the most southern town of substantial size in Belize and upon first impression with sunny weather, it seemed like a worthwhile place to spend a night, so we refused the afternoon boat heading to Guatemala and settled in to the "Natureīs Way Guesthouse." Just as we were ready to find some lunch, it began to rain. When it had subsided a few chapters in our books later, we headed out to the center of town. Not a single store was open: no groceries, no restaurants, no Internet, no people or cars on the streets, no nothing. Donīt worry folks, nothing was seriously wrong, it was just another... dun-dun-dun...Sunday! We found one restaurant that was open, fortunately good and not too expensive, and waited an absurd amount of time to be served. By the time we ate, we were not sure whether to call it lunch or dinner. We returned to our room for another marathon reading session until we were again hungry and again waited for a break in the rain. We were tipped off by the guesthouse owner that a different restaurant would be open for dinner which turned out to be a burger joint-icecream parlour-local hangout that could have been in any Smalltown, USA. The next morning, the town had transformed into a bustling marketplace with Mayans from nearby villages coming into town, cute coffee shops open, and Rastas chilling on the curb. However, it was time for us to be moving on...(No photos were taken, nor were necessary for this entry.)
