Grand Canyon National Park: Part II-Mather Point
After a few days at Camper Village, we spent four nights at Trailer Village, an RV campground within Grand Canyon National Park. Upon our arrival to the park, we followed the crowds to Mather Point on the South Rim (Mather Point is where most people start their view of the canyon-it lies opposite the visitor center). This is the place where most people's memories of Grand Canyon reside (or their resident memories are inspired). A little known fact-the average duration of a visit to the Grand Canyon is a mere 4 hours-I think this is incredible! The implication is that most people just come in, park at Mather Point, snap a couple of pics, and then leave. Now, really, people-you have to go out of your way to get here-there really is not much else around! To go all that way just to turn around and either go home or go somewhere else seems like such a waste when we are talking about one of the top natural wonders of the world!!

Anyway-the view from Mather point really is spectacular (although I think some of the views from Desert Point Drive (see part IV) rival these)! Creatures great and small, human and non-human, seem to seek solace in the view from the edge. We've put up a few of Mather Point here, including shots of the shadows and colors of sunset at the Canyon, which tells you more than my words could express!
